Student Bus Pass Program (SBPP)

In 2004, voters passed the Countywide Measure J sales tax which included funding for low-income students in both the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) and the John Swett Unified School District.

The WCCTAC Board defined "low-income" as any student registered in the Free and Reduced lunch program.  Current funding allows for approximately 2,600 high school student in WCCUSD to receive either a free AC Transit monthly pass OR a 20-ride WestCAT pass.

The benefit of offering a free bus pass is that it allows low-income families to get kids to school without the barrier of transportation costs .  It is  aimed at reducing tardiness, absenteeism, and expanding opportunities for students of all incomes levels to participate in after school sports, clubs and jobs.
