Don’t Miss Out, Get the New 50% Youth Discount Fare on BART
Feb 5, 2018 at 2:54pm
BART expanded the age range for its youth discount fare.
Starting in 2018, BART expanded the age range that’s eligible for its youth fare. Now BART riders between 5-18 years old are eligible for a 50% discounted youth fare on BART. Now that BART is charging an extra 25₵ a ride for youth paper tickets, there’s never been a better time to get a Youth Clipper card.
A Youth Clipper card is free and simple to get; but you can’t get them at vending machines in the station. Instead, download and complete the application and then submit it along with a photocopy or scan (no originals) of just one of the documents listed below to demonstrate your youth fare eligibility:
- Student identification card with date of birth
- Medical benefit card with date of birth
- State-issued identification card or driver’s license
- Permanent resident card ("Green Card")
- Birth certificate or passport
- Military dependent card with date of birth
- Matricula consular/consular identification card
- SF City ID Card
You can submit your Youth Clipper application by mail, email or fax. To get a card immediately, you can apply in person at the BART Customer Service Center at the Lake Merritt Station, a Clipper Customer Service Center or other participating transit partner location. (See in-person locations here.)
Clipper Customer Service will mail your card directly to the address you provide on your application. Cards mailed by Clipper Customer Service typically arrive within seven days.
